text: The Aztec Bowl is an NCAA-sanctioned college division/minor; AFCA Division III Division II/III post-season bowl game that has been played intermittently since 1947. From 1947 to 1949 the event was called the Silver Bowl, and in 1950 the name was changed to the Aztec Bowl. With but one exception, all of the games have been played at locations in Mexico; the exception was the 1957 game played in San Antonio, Texas. From 1997 to 2008, under sponsorship of the American Football Coaches Association,
