text: The 1927 World Chess Championship was played between José Raúl Capablanca and Alexander Alekhine, in Buenos Aires from September 16 to November 29, 1927. Alekhine, a Russian, became a naturalised French citizen during the match. According to the London rules of 1922 proposed by Capablanca, the challenger had to contribute $10,000 to be able to challenge the champion. Alekhine was able to raise that money in 1927.
