Walter John was a German chess master. John was born at Thorn (Toruń), German Empire. He took 2nd, behind Curt von Bardeleben in Café Kerkau, and took 4th at Berlin 1902. He won at Hanover 1902. In 1904, he tied for 11-12th in Coburg. In 1905, he tied for 7-10th in Barmen. In 1907, he tied for 10-11th in Ostend. In 1908, he took 4th in Düsseldorf. In 1910, he took 16th in Hamburg. In 1914, he tied for 10-11th in Mannheim. John drew a match with Jacques Mieses at Leipzig 1917.
