Virgil Caraivan was a Romanian prose writer. Born in Șuletea, Vaslui County, his parents were the schoolteacher Neculai Caraivan and his wife Smaranda. He went to primary school in his native village, followed by gymnasium in nearby Bârlad and high school in Piatra Neamț, which he completed in 1900. In 1903, he graduated from the literature and law faculty of the University of Bucharest. His first published work appeared in Noua revistă română in 1901 and consisted of the study "Ritmul muncii în
