USS Newport News (AK-3) was a cargo liner that was launched in Germany in 1903 as St. Jan. She was renamed Odenwald in 1907 when she changed owners, and Newport News in 1917 when the United States seized her. She was renamed Arctic in 1925, and scrapped in 1937. She was the first of three US Navy ships to be named USS Newport News. She served in the United States Navy from 1918 until 1924. Her Naval service was transatlantic until 1919, when she was transferred to the Pacific. As Odenwald she be
