Tiki is the name given in the cultures of central Polynesia in the Pacific Ocean to large-sized statues in human form. They are often used to delimit sacred places. The word Tiki is used as such in Maorí in New Zealand, Maorí de Islas Cook, Tuamotuan and Marquesan as ti'i in Tahitian and as Ki'i in Hawaiian. The word is not known in the languages of Western Polynesia or in Rapanui.
