text: Thomas Whitmore was an English Whig politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1806 to 1831. Whitmore was the eldest son of Thomas Whitmore of Apley Park, Stockton, Shropshire and his wife Mary Foley and was educated at Eton College (1796-79) and Christ Church, Oxford (1799). He was recorder of the borough of Bridgnorth and lay Dean of the royal peculiar of Bridgnorth. He inherited Apley Park in 1795 on the death of his father and in 1811 extensively rebuilt Apley Hall.
