text: Sydney Lancaster Sarel was a British track and field athlete who competed in racewalking events. At the 1908 Summer Olympics he was eliminated in the first round of the 3500 metre walk competition. He was educated at Tonbridge School, and studied natural sciences at Keble College, Oxford. He taught science at Sir William Borlase's Grammar School, before training for the priesthood. He was ordained in 1898, and served as a curate in Hoxton then as vicar of St Matthew's, Bethnal Green.
