St James' Church is the parish church of Murton, a village immediately east of the built-up area of the City of York, in England. The church was built in about 1200, as a simple rectangular structure of limestone. It served as a chapel-of-ease to St Thomas' Church, Osbaldwick. By the 19th century, it was unclear who was responsible for its upkeep. When the roof was badly damaged in a storm, in 1834, it was not repaired, and the chapel became a ruin.
