In astrophysics, spaghettification is the vertical stretching and horizontal contraction of objects freefalling into a gravitational field. It is caused by tidal forces. The opposite effect is called pancaking and is experienced by bodies positioned on a surface that is in a gravitational field but is not falling into the latter, or, due do the equivalence principle, by bodies positioned on a surface that is being accelerated towards them.
