Sol Jong-sik was a Korean poet, novelist, translator, literary scholar, and politician. He graduated from Yeonhee College, before achieving a B.A. in English Literature from Mount Union College, Ohio, and a master's degree in philosophy from Columbia University. He returned to Korea and became a published poet, and then worked with the U.S. military government and the left-wing Korean Writers Alliance after the liberation. He defected to North Korea during the Korean War but was executed in 1953
