The Reverend Shelton Hale Bishop was an Episcopal Priest who spent most of his career in New York City. He was rector of St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Harlem from 1933 to 1957. His father, Hutchens Chew Bishop, served as rector of the same church from 1886 to 1933. At age seven, Bishop entered the service of St. Philip's as an acolyte. After receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia University in 1911 and graduating from General Theological Seminary, he was ordained deacon in 1914.
