Samuel Chenery Damon was a missionary to Hawaii, pastor of the Seamen's Bethel Church, chaplain of the Honolulu American Seamen's Friend Society and editor of the monthly newspaper The Friend. He began his religious studies at Princeton Theological Seminary in 1838–39, and graduated from Andover Theological Seminary in 1841 after which he was ordained to the Congregational ministry. His work in Hawaii began on October 19, 1842, under the help and support of the American Seaman's Friend Society.
