Samuel Rodd Morshead MBE was an Irish jockey who competed in National Hunt racing and later became a successful horse racing administrator. Morshead's parents were from Cornwall but he was born and brought up in Ireland. He began his career as a jockey in Ireland and rode his first winner at Fairyhouse Racecourse in April 1973. He moved to Britain at the age of 20 and spent the majority of his career at the stable of Fred Rimell, continuing as jockey for Rimell's widow, Mercy, after the trainer'
