A 6'4" shooting guard from Louisville, Kentucky, was Kentucky Mr. Basketball as a senior at Central High School. He chose Florida State for college, where as a junior he led the Seminoles to the 1972 National Championship game, where they lost to UCLA 81–76. King scored 1,252 points in his college career and set the school single-game scoring record with 46 against
