It is a suffragan diocese in the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archdiocese of Newark. The mother church of the Diocese of Trenton is the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption in Trenton. As of 2023, the current bishop of Trenton is David M. O'Connell.
