Rolf Magener was the first German prisoner to escape successfully from India during the Second World War. His daring escape from a camp at Dehradun in 1944 with mountaineer Heinrich Harrer is documented in Magener's memoir, Prisoner's Bluff. After the war he became a successful business executive and chief financial officer for BASF, and held a senior-level position with Mercedes-Benz.
