text: Robert Lindsay (1679-1743) was an Irish barrister, politician and judge in eighteenth-century Ireland. He is best remembered for his close friendship with Jonathan Swift, whom he advised on the legal aspects of the Drapier Letters. He was born at Loughry, County Tyrone, elder son of Robert Lindsay and Anne Morris, daughter of John Morris of Bellville. His father died in 1691 and he inherited the family estate. He went to school in Drogheda and graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 1700. He en
