Árni Sigfússon is the former mayor of Reykjavík, Iceland's capital and of Reykjanesbær. As a city council member since 1986, he stepped in as a mayor in Reykjavík for a few months for his party in 1994 when his party was getting very poor ratings from polls. After his appointment he managed to lead the party to over 47% in the 1994 elections. He was on the board of Heimdallur from 1976 to 1979 and was its chairman from 1981 to 1983.
