text: Richard Brook (1880-1969) was an English scholar, academic and school master who was Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich from 1940 to 1953, having previously been in academia as Principal of Liverpool College. Brook was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire, in 1880 and was educated at Bradford Grammar School and Lincoln College, Oxford, where he was awarded 1st Class Honours in Modern History and Theology. He was a Fellow of Merton College, Oxford, 1907–19, and he contributed an essay in ‘Foundatio
