A psychon was a minimal unit of psychic activity proposed by Warren McCulloch and Walter Pitts in "A Logical Calculus of Ideas Immanent in Nervous Activity" in 1943, where it was posited to be "no less than the activity of a single neuron." McCulloch was later to reflect that he intended to invent a kind of "least psychic event" with the following properties: it either happened or else it did not happen.
