Pitts v. Black was a 1984 legal case in the U.S. District Court S.D.N.Y establishing eligible American voters residing in non-conventional accommodations cannot be refused to register to vote. Even a park bench can be elected to be a residence. As a result, 410 homeless voters in New York were allowed to register for the 1984 presidential election.
