text: Sir Peter Probie was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at times between 1593 and 1598. He was Lord Mayor of London in 1622. He was the second son of Ralph Probie and Alice Bernard of Brampton, Cambridgeshire. He was born in Chester, but when he was a boy the family moved to Brampton, where his mother's family were influential local landowners. Peter's elder brother Ralph died childless in 1605 and Peter inherited the family estates. Probie was a member of the Worshipful Compa
