text: Paul H. Rabinowitz is the Edward Burr Van Vleck Professor of Mathematics and a Vilas Research Professor at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He received a Ph.D. from New York University in 1966 under the direction of Jürgen Moser. From 1966 to 1969 he held a position as assistant professor at Stanford University. He has visited many mathematical institutions all over the world. In 1978 Paul Rabinowitz became a fellow of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. He works in the fields of
