The ordenanças, sometimes misspelled ordenanzas in English, were a militia-type organization that existed in Portugal and in some parts of the Portuguese Empire, between the 16th and the 19th centuries. In the 17th century, the ordenanças became a kind of "home guard" and reserve of the Portuguese Army. They were disbanded in 1831.
