Nikolay Ivanovich Ashinov (1856-1902) was a Cossack, burgess of Penza and adventurer-traveler. He was also a Russian amateur linguist who published “The Abyssinian alphabet and the initial Abyssinian-Russian dictionary” as well as the commanding officer of the Sagallo expedition in Abyssinia.
