text: NGC 396 is a lenticular galaxy located about located about 550 million light-years away from Earth, in the constellation Pisces. It was discovered on October 27, 1864, by Albert Marth. It was described by Dreyer as "extremely faint, small, a little extended." It is a large galaxy, with a diameter of around 185,000 light years, making it nearly twice the size of the Milky Way.
