In Albuquerque, New Mexico, four Muslim men were killed between November 2021 and August 2022 in a series of ambush shootings. Albuquerque police initially investigated the killings as a possible hate crime. 51-year-old Muhammad Atif Syed, an Afghan American, was arrested as the suspect on August 9, 2022. Authorities were also seeking to detain his son on August 14, 2022. Syed has been convicted in one of the murders in March 2024, and pled no contest in other two in September 2024. His son has
