On 25 July 1980, 16-year-old student Ong Ai Siok, birth name Goh Luan Kheng, who stayed at home to study overnight while her adoptive parents went out for supper, was murdered by her unemployed relative Lau Ah Kiang, who entered her home to commit robbery as a result of his desperation to discharge his debts and settle his unpaid living expenses.
