The Municipality of Cossack was a local government area in Western Australia, centred on the town of Cossack. It was established on 1 December 1887. The council consisted of seven members with a chairman elected by the members. The first election was held on 20 December 1887, with A. W. Anderson becoming the first chairman. Meetings were held in the Cossack Assembly Room until council chambers were established by the mid-1890s. In March 1888, the Daily News in Perth reported of the municipality:
