The Mughal dynasty or the House of Babur, was a branch of the Timurid dynasty founded by Babur that ruled the Mughal Empire from its inception in 1526 till the early eighteenth century, and then as ceremonial suzerains over much of the empire until 1857. The Mughals originated as a branch of the Central Asian Timurid dynasty, supplemented with extra Borjigin bloodlines. The dynasty's founder, Babur, was a direct descendant of the Asian conqueror Timur (1336–1405) on his father's side and of Mong
