Moses W. Beckelman was a social worker from New York City. He began his career with the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee in 1939, becoming its director-general in 1951. Born in New York, Beckelman graduated from the College of the City of New York in 1928. He further took graduate classes at Columbia University, the School for Jewish Social Work and the New York School of Social Work. He joined JDC in 1939 and was sent to Vilna in October 1939, where he faced a refugee crisis in the
