text: Moses Ayers McCoid was a Union Army officer in the American Civil War and a three-term Republican U.S. Representative from Iowa's 1st congressional district in southeastern Iowa. Born near Bellefontaine, Ohio, McCoid attended the public schools, Fairfield University, and Washington College, in Washington, Pennsylvania.
