Monsanto e Idanha-a-Velha is a civil parish in the municipality of Idanha-a-Nova, Portugal. It was formed in 2013 by the merger of the former parishes Monsanto and Idanha-a-Velha. The population in 2011 was 892, in an area of 152.73 km2. Thanks to its fine collection of ruins, the village of Idanha-a-Velha has some of the country's most important archaeological sites. It stands in a place where a Roman city once lay, the capital of Civitas Igaeditanorum and later the episcopal seat during occupa
