Molango is a town and one of the 84 municipalities of Hidalgo, in central-eastern Mexico. The municipality covers an area of 246.7 km². As of 2005, the municipality had a total population of 10,385. Molango comes from the Word Molanco a nahuatl name that means place of the god mola a pre-Columbian deity that represents the surrounding mountains and was worshipped within the territory by Nahua and Otomi People's Who still live within this municipality to this day.
