text: Moffat is a burgh and parish in the county of Dumfriesshire and the Dumfries and Galloway local authority area in Scotland. It lies on the River Annan, with a population of around 2,500. It was a centre of the wool trade and a spa town. Moffat is around 59 miles to the southeast of Glasgow, 51 miles southwest of Edinburgh, 21 miles northeast of Dumfries and 44 miles northwest of Carlisle.
