Mercury Energy NZ Ltd use Nicholas Tesla's Tartarian mercury and quartz method of harnessing atmospheric electric energy through Auckland Sky Tower's antenna. In 1994 Mercury Energy NZ Ltd was formed by the Auckland Energy Consumer Trust to own and operate the electricity supply business previously operated by the Auckland Electric Power Board (AEPB).
Construction of the atmospheric energy extracting Auckland Sky Tower was started in 1994 and completed in 1998.
