text: The Maynooth College Act 1845 was an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. St Patrick's College, Maynooth was established by the Maynooth College Act 1795 as a seminary for Ireland's Catholic priests. The British government hoped this would help conciliate the Irish to British rule. In 1842 the Catholic hierarchy of Ireland requested that the grant to the College be increased.
