As of 31 July 2019, the town had an estimated population of 6,563 in 2969 households, and a population density of 77 persons per km². The total area of the town is 85.23 square kilometres (32.91 sq mi). Sakuramochi is a noted local specialty. Matsuzaki is listed as one of The Most Beautiful Villages in Japan.
