text: Martin Wines was a politician in the U.S. state of Indiana and one of the most prominent men in the early history of Greene County. Descended from a family that settled in the Massachusetts Bay Colony in the early seventeenth century, Wines was one of the pioneers of Greene County. Settling in Fairplay Township, he was the first person to teach school in his portion of the county, and he was the county's first inspector of elections.
