text: Mark Yeates is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1980s. Yeates is best known for an incident in the 1989 VFL Grand Final when he felled Dermott Brereton after the opening bounce which saw the Hawthorn forward suffer a bruised kidney and internal bleeding. He left Geelong at the end of the 1990 season and for the next two years was captain/coach of North Hobart and led them to back-to-back Tasmanian Football League (TFL)
