The Maritime Fiddle Festival is the longest running old-time fiddle contest in Canada. It is also the largest fiddle contest in the region. Occurring annually in Nova Scotia in early July, the contest currently includes seven fiddling classes, two step-dance classes, and two days of competition, performance, and socials. Winners of the contest include several notable fiddlers, including Mari Black, April Verch, J.P. Cormier, Scott Woods, and Shane Cook.
