Margaret Peoples Shirer was one of the first American Pentecostal Christian missionaries to West Africa. With little formal education, at she traveled to Burkina Faso in 1919 at the age of 22, with the support of the Assemblies of God. She became the first known person of European origin to learn the language of the Mossi people.
