text: Lyngbya is a genus of cyanobacteria, unicellular autotrophs that form the basis of the oceanic food chain. As a result of recent genetic analyses, several new genera were erected from this genus: e.g., Moorea, Limnoraphis, Okeania, Microseira, and Dapis.
