Her Majesty's Ambassador to Oman is the United Kingdom's foremost diplomatic representative in Oman, and is the head of Britain's diplomatic mission in Muscat. Until 1971 the British representative in Muscat was a Consul-General. Following the accession of Sultan Qaboos in 1970, the Sultan agreed that the Consulate-General should be raised to an embassy, and the first British Ambassador to the Sultanate, Donald Hawley, presented his credentials to the Sultan on 22 July 1971.
