Jacob Lionel Garstein Kopelowitz was a British Jewish community leader and former President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews. Kopelowitz was born in Newcastle upon Tyne but grew up in nearby Durham. He was educated at Clifton College before studying at the Trinity College at the University of Cambridge while training as a doctor at University College Hospital. He served in the Royal Air Force (1952–1953) before becoming a GP. He was President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews and
