Leopold Lichtwitz was a German-American internist. He studied medicine in several German universities, receiving his doctorate in 1901 from the University of Leipzig. In 1906/07 he studied chemistry at Leipzig, and during the following year, obtained his habilitation for medicine at the University of Göttingen. In 1910 he was named head of the medical polyclinic in Göttingen, where in 1913 he became an associate professor. In 1916 he was appointed director of the department of internal medicine
