Leevi Gerson Max was an Ovambo pastor in the service of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia. He was one of the founders of the labour movement in Namibia. Max's father was Andonio Max Manuel, a lay preacher from Angola, and his mother was Rebekka Amupanda, a nurse. They had been sent to Rupara to assist Nurse Anna Rautaheimo in the founding of a clinic in Rupara.
