text: La Chureca was the municipal domestic and industrial waste-disposal site in Managua, Nicaragua. It was the largest open-air landfill in Central America, covering 7 km2 in the north-western corner of Managua. It is located on the south shore of Lake Managua, and it is near Acahualinca, home to the famous ancient footprints of Acahualinca.
