Koshkonong Settlement was a pioneer settlement located in Wisconsin's eastern Dane and western Jefferson counties. It took its name from Koshkonong Lake, and particularly from Koshkonong Creek. The first Norwegians located in the settlement in the spring and summer of 1840. The following year, Norwegian settlers from the Jefferson Prairie Settlement and the Fox River Settlement arrived. By 1850, more than half of Wisconsin's Norwegian population of 5,000 lived in the Koshkonong Settlement, which
